Eric Adams quits New York City Mayor Race
In the video posted on social media, Eric Adams proudly spoke of his tenure as mayor of New York City. But he said his ongoing federal corruption case has hesitated voters. Furthermore, the politician claims that “continuous media speculation” about his future has allowed enough funds to raise an impossible important campaign.
“I can’t continue to be re-elected despite our achievements,” Adams said.
The mayor of New York City did not recognize the remaining candidates in the competition. However, he warned of the use of the “sincere power” of local governments to “promote the separatist agenda.”
“That’s not change, that’s confusion,” Adams said. “Instead, I urge New Yorkers to choose leaders not based on their commitments, but by what they offer.”
Last year’s big family!
It is speculated that Eric Adams will not enter Election Day, and it will be rampant for a year. The bribery case and his passionate relationship with President Donald Trump have suffered severe damage. He skipped the Democratic primary and voted as an independent vote.
Adams, 65, is the city’s second black mayor. He is a former police captain and Brooklyn Borough president of New York City, and he took office in 2022. At the time, he promised to fight crime and revitalize cities that still rebounded from the coronavirus pandemic. He succeeded in signing. The upward ticking prologue of crime has dropped to pre-pandemic levels after Covid-19 hit the city. However, it is not clear how much Adams’ policy has caused.
Still, scandals and corruption investigations have weakened Eric Adams’ chances in another semester. His police chief, school prime minister and several mayors resigned after a series of federal raids at their homes in the past few weeks. No one faces criminal charges.
Then, in late September 2024, federal prosecutors filed fraud and bribery charges against Eric Adams, accusing him of accepting illegal campaign donations and huge travel discounts from Turkish officials and others. In exchange, the mayor of New York City allegedly accelerated the opening of the Turkish diplomatic building, among other offers.
Meanwhile, Adams denied the wrongdoing and promised to remain in office. He also began to talk about Trump in a fervent manner, who was predicted to go to the White House and later did it. He defended Trump in a media briefing, urging his party to remarks against Republicans and avoid criticizing him.
After Trump’s victory, Eric Adams met with Trump’s border tsar Thomas Homan. Then, in February, the Trump Justice Department ordered New York’s federal prosecutors to abandon allegations against Eric Adams so that the mayor could assist the Republican president’s immigration agenda. Interventions were shaky at City Hall, with some claiming that the mayor of New York City reached a deal with the White House for freedom.
Adams announced he would skip the June Democratic primary but stay in the game. In late August, Adams’s former top adviser (formerly a campaign volunteer) was attacked by fresh bribery charges. Another former assistant handed a local reporter a cash-filled potato chip bag to re-election.
Who are the remaining mayoral candidates?
The end of Eric Adams’ run could cancel the former administration’s campaign. Andrew Cuomo. He portrays himself as the only candidate who can beat Democratic nominee, state legislator Zohran Mamdani. It is not clear that enough Adams supporters will transfer their support to Cuomo to make a difference.
If elected, Mamdani, 33, would be the youngest and most free mayor of generations in the city. He decisively defeated Cuomo in the Democratic primary by running to reduce the cost of living in one of the world’s most expensive cities.
Mamdani, Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa are still in the mayoral race.
In a statement announced by Eric Adams, Zohran Mamdani targeted Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo attempted to resign in the governor’s office after resigning from multiple sexual harassment charges by women in 2021.
“New York should be better than trading another person in a shameful, corrupt politician,” Mamdani said.
Cuomo praised Adams in social media statement “Put the well-being of New York City before personal ambitions.”
He added: “We face destructive extremist forces that will destroy our cities through incompetence or ignorance, but it’s not too late to stop them.”
As mentioned earlier, Sliwa continues to compete. However, his party weakened his candidacy. For example, Trump called him in a recent interview “It’s not exactly prime time.” Despite this, Sliwa repeatedly insisted that he would not resign.
